Community Initiatives Agenda (CIA) began with a mission to uplift children and families in Kajiado County through education and health. Our early work with public primary schools introduced programs that focused on academic success and early childhood development. While impactful, these programs primarily reached school-aged children, limiting our ability to support them during the most critical years of growth: the early years.
This realization inspired a transformative shift in our mission. Today, we focus on Early Childhood Development (ECD) in a holistic, intentional way, one that prioritizes the needs of children, caregivers, and parents alike. By embracing the nurturing care framework, we aim to support families at the very start of their journey, creating a strong foundation for lifelong success.
In partnership with TIVET institutions across Kenya, we are also bridging the gap between early childhood care and economic empowerment by helping young mothers gain skills that allow them to become self-reliant. These partnerships complement our vision to establish our own Center of Excellence in childcare and skills development, providing immediate opportunities for young mothers while laying the groundwork for a transformative model that will uplift entire communities.
We are committed to empowering families with the resources and knowledge they need to thrive, fostering healthier, more resilient communities for generations to come.
To empower young mothers and caregivers while providing nurturing, high-quality care for children, creating thriving families and communities.
A society where every child is nurtured, every young mother is empowered, and every family has the opportunity to thrive.
CIA operates in communities living in arid and semi-arid regions of Kenya, currently focusing our programs in Kajiado County. This area is predominantly inhabited by the Maasai community, known for their pastoralist lifestyle. Children in this region face numerous challenges, including inadequate learning and teaching resources, unfriendly learning environments, and parents’ negative attitudes towards the education of girls. Additionally, cultural practices such as early marriage and female circumcision, teenage pregnancies, Moranism, and widespread poverty further hinder their development.
We support children under the age of four and their caregivers, particularly young mothers, by addressing gaps that hinder early childhood development and well-being.
