Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to unite in a way that little else does. It speaks to youth in a language they can understand. It is in the nature of sports for people to engage and participate. Through this engagement, social, economic and religious barriers are broken, thus making sports an important tool to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals – SDG’s which leads to social transformation and change.

Community Initiatives Agenda – CIA, has sports as one of its key program. Nurturing gifted and talented children notwithstanding, through sports CIA seeks to achieve social impact. For instance CIA uses sports as a platform to champion for the retention of Maasai girls and boys in school. Instead of the conventional education methods, the fun component of sports allows the young people to open up and share their feelings and ideas.

Through sports, the Maasai girls and boys in the 3 public schools that CIA supports, have reported increased self – esteem and self – confidence. This has in turn resulted in boosting their academic performance and an improved classroom attendance and behavior.

CIA endeavors to use sports as a tool to develop the young in prime issues such as, education, health promotion and environmental conservation.
