Growing up, I witnessed the immense challenges faced by young mothers in my community, many of whom had been forced into early marriages or dropped out of school due to pregnancy and other factors. They struggled to navigate parenthood with limited resources, often unable to provide the nurturing care they wanted for their children. Their hardships deeply resonated with me, sparking a lifelong commitment to make a difference. This drive led to the founding of Community Initiatives Agenda in 2016, a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization that serves as the vehicle for advancing my mission to transform lives and create sustainable solutions for young mothers and their children. Through this initiative, I aim to break cycles of hardship, empower families, and foster a brighter, more hopeful future for generations to come.
For the past seven years, I have dedicated myself to supporting children in public primary schools and young mothers and their children. Despite these efforts, the need remains overwhelming. Accessible, quality childcare is still out of reach for many, and too often, young children miss out on critical developmental support while their mothers lack the guidance and resources to thrive.
This realization drives my mission to break the cycle of hardship by creating sustainable solutions. I envision a childcare academy and training center that serves as a beacon of hope for young mothers and their children. At this center, young mothers will gain vocational skills to build sustainable livelihoods, children will have access to safe, enriching care, and caregivers will be equipped with the tools they need to foster healthy development.
In addition to establishing our own Center of Excellence, we are forging strong partnerships with Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TIVET) institutions in Kenya. Through these collaborations, we can immediately equip young mothers with marketable skills, ensuring they have opportunities for sustainable livelihoods. Our Education and Skills Advancement Scholarships will provide critical support to cover school fees for these young mothers, enabling them to join TIVET institutions and transform their futures.
With this dual approach, partnering with existing institutions while building our own sustainable model, we aim to empower local families, create lasting change, and ensure the program’s sustainability.
Imagine a community where every child grows up healthy, loved, and ready to succeed; where young mothers are self-reliant and equipped to break the cycle of poverty; and where caregivers nurture the next generation with knowledge and compassion. This vision is within reach, and I invite you to join us in making it a reality.
We support children under the age of four and their caregivers, particularly young mothers, by addressing gaps that hinder early childhood development and well-being.
