My Fun Mobile Library at Upper Matasia Pri. Sch.

CIA believes that introducing children to books early in life has long life benefits. Through a project dubbed, “My Fun Mobile Library”, C.I.A visited Upper Matasia Primary School for a reading session with the pupils in Grade 1,2 and 3.

Through this project C.I.A donates story books and supplementary textbooks to public primary schools and rotates the books among the neighboring schools.

Reading is an important activity in acquiring literacy. It enhances concentration, attention span, and discipline. It improves speech and cognitive skills, builds motivation, curiosity, and memory. It also enhances children’s social skills.

An observation made during the assessment trips to the field by C.I.A shows lack of libraries in almost all public primary schools in Kajiado.

C.I.A’s ultimate goal is to establish libraries among public primary schools. The libraries will be an integral part of the cultural and social life of the schools. The libraries will be central points for people to read, join in cultural activities, and access information. They will help every member of the school community — students, staff and families to gain new knowledge, skills and dispositions for learning and personal development that they will use throughout their lives.
